The course presents international and EU policies and legislative requirements related to to the transport of dangerous materials and explains the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods. It will elaborate the main issues from ADR 2009 as well as safety measures and procedures in case of accidents.

Target profile of attendees

Each undertaking, the activities of which include the carriage, or the related packing, loading, filling or unloading, of dangerous goods by road shall appoint one or more safety advisers for the carriage of dangerous goods, resposible for helping to prevent the risks inherent in such activities with regard to persons, property and the environment (ADR 1.8.3.)

Course contents (divided in units)

Unit 1:     

  1. Classification of dangerous goods
  2. General packing provisions, provisions for tanks and tank container
  3. Marking and labelling and orange plates marking
  4. Particulars in transport documents

Unit 2

  1. Methods of consignment and restrictions on dispath
  2. Transport of passengers
  3. Prohibitions and precautions to mixed loading
  4. Segregation of goods

Unit 3

  1. Limitation of the quantities carried and quantity exemptions
  2. Handling and stowage
  3. Cleaning and/or degassing before loading or after unloading
  4. Crews, vocational training

Unit 4

  1. Vehicle documents
  2. Instructions in writing
  3. Supervision requirements
  4. Traffic regulations and restrictions
  5. Operational discharges or accidental leaks of pollutants
  6. Requirements relating to transport equipment

Unit 5

  1. Review of the course main issues
  2. Preparation for final exam
  3. Final exam
